Figurative language goes beyond the real meaning of the word so the reader can use new views of a word or words in a sentence.

Figurative language is when we describe normal things in a different way. An example is my fingernails are as sharp as knives or my daddy is as slow as a snail.

Figurative language could be a sentence that is fiction but entertaining. This is a simile sentence. This makes reading more interesting because it is funny. Example it is raining cats and dogs!

Figurative language makes reading more interesting. It's language that doesn't exactly mean what you say. Examples like hold your horses, in a pickle, as toasty as toast, and dry as a desert are fun to read but don't mean what they say.
